Congratulations to Lady Hawk softball coach Ray Seymour who won his 600th game last week. Coach Seymour is in his 21st season as head coach of the Hawks Fastpitch Softball Team. Great job coach!

Laura was named this week's FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week

Hillsborough Community College’s Laura Downs is this week’s FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Downs, a freshman from Boynton Beach, Fla., went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three games last week. On March 22, she tossed both games of a doubleheader against South Florida. In game one, she struck out eight batters in five innings and allowed only 2 hits. In the nightcap, she allowed three hits over six innings and struck out12. Her final appearance of the week was against Illinois Valley on March 24 when she tossed a complete-game five-hitter – she struck out 12. For the week, Downs pitched 18 shutout innings and allowed ten hits while striking out 32.

Khyrstyne was name FCSAA Softball Player of the Week Games February 20-26.

Hillsborough Community College’s Khyrstyne Ely is this week’s FCSAA Softball Player of the Week. Ely, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., batted .478 (13-for-23) with 13 runs scored, one triple, three home runs and five RBIs in seven games. Ely also walked three times and had a .609 on-base percentage. In a doubleheader vs. Western Ontario on February 21, she was 6-for-8 and scored six runs. Against Polk State on February 25, she went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs, and she finished the week with a 2-for-3 effort against top-ranked Tallahassee, also on February 25.

Congratulations to Kaylyn Camacho!  The Puerto Rican Olympic Committee selected her as the 2010 Outstanding Athlete of the Year. Kaylyn has been pitching for the Puerto Rican National team.  She has been selected by the Softball Federation to represent them in the XLV Olympic Awards.
