CLEP provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate prior learning and earn college credit toward General Education and elective requirements.
HCC participates in both the General Examination Program and the Subject Examination Program. The advising and counseling staff can assist a student in determining which CLEP examination to attempt. CLEP tests are given at the Dale Mabry and Brandon Test Centers on the published dates. Applications are available at any HCC campus.
Not more than six semester credits are to be awarded in each of the five areas of the general examination: English, humanities, mathematics, natural science and social science-history. Credit for general examinations in English is awarded only if both the objective and the essay portions are successfully completed.
Students may earn a maximum of 30 semester hours for general examinations, or up to 45 semester hours if subject examinations are included. The grade of satisfactory “S” is awarded for CLEP credit earned.
NOTE: A student who is currently enrolled in a course or who has previously completed a course is not eligible for CLEP credit for that course. However, a student who has withdrawn or dropped a course is eligible for CLEP credit the following semester.
Brandon test site administers the CLEP exam to HCC students and Non-HCC students. The CLEP exam is given by appointment only. Allow at least two hours for each CLEP exam you would like to schedule.
