College Placement Test (CPT)

The College Placement Test (CPT) is offered Monday through Friday on a walk-in basis during regular hours of operation. Students may begin the test between the hours of 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Monday and Tuesday, 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM Wednesday and Thursday, and 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM Friday. Students scoring below college level on the Sentence Skills section of the test may need up to 3 hours to complete the entire CPT.

Anyone wishing to take the CPT must first submit an HCC application to the information desk and then obtain a test referral slip from a generalist in the Brandon Student Services Building. If you have SAT or ACT scores that are no more than two years old, bring official copies with you and seek the advice of an Advisor before testing.

Before testing, students are strongly encouraged to review the CPT Study Guide or CPT Practice Tests, and the Preparation Guide.

There is no charge for taking the CPT the first time. Under exceptional circumstances, students may be entitled to one opportunity to retake part or all of the CPT. See an advisor for information on the criteria to retake the CPT.

  • The day of your test, report to BSSB 203 and please bring with you a picture ID and two #2 pencils. Please allow 3 hours for testing time if you are taking the entire test.
  • After testing, returning students must go to BSSB 122 to review their scores with an Advisor. First time in college students must schedule an appointment for orientation with an Advisor or Test Proctor before registering for classes.
For security purposes scores will not be released over the phone or to a third party. Students may request an official copy of their score report through the Office of Admissions, Records, & Registration, located in BSSB 126.
  • If you are a student wishing to participate in the Dual Enrollment program you must first contact your school's Guidance Counselor. Although an HCC application is not required for testing, a referral pass from an HCC Advisor is a requirement.
HCC Brandon Campus only test high school students that attend our four feeder schools which consists of:

If your school is not listed here, please contact your Guidance counselor.
