INTERIOR DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

The Interior Design Technology Program (IND) is a two-year degreed
program leading to an Associate of Science degree. Student that complete this program and meet
the required work experience criteria are eligible to sit for the State of Florida
Interior Design Licensing Exam.
The program is divided into two part, theoretical and technical and
is instructed at two locations in Tampa. Erwin Technical Center teaches
the theory and professional practice portion of the program, and HCC instructs the technical part of the program.

What qualities should a student posses in order to succeed in this
program?
- Artistic talent is a real bonus, the ability
to intermix color, texture and pattern are all instructed. Students work in a combination of formal classrooms
and open lab formats, and thus must be able to schedule their time
well and be motivated to meet deadlines and due dates. This is a profession
that requires the ability to work well with people, both clients and other
designers.
What does the IND Program consist of?
- The division of instruction between HCC and Erwin Technical Center has been
noted. Theory courses include the historical development
of furniture, lighting techniques, color and patterns, professional
practice, research and planning. Technical courses include CADD using AutoCadd
version 2000, manual drawing, building materials
and systems and spatial design.
What type of work will I be required to produce?
- You will be producing formal presentation boards of your own interior design
concepts. One of the design courses involves the planning of a residence,
complete with construction drawings. Both manual and CADD drawing production
are instructed, along with blueprint and specification reading. Click on
