CADD TECHNICIAN (DESIGNER)

HCC does not offer a program based solely on CADD.  Our past experiences with Industry have indicated that graduates need to posses and understanding of what they are drawing as well as how to utilized CADD in the design and drawing process.  We view CADD as a significant tool, but it is still only a tool.  Just as knowing how to operate a circular saw is useful, that knowledge alone will not enable a person to build a wood framed house.

What degreed programs does HCC offer that will allow me to work with CADD in the design or construction industry?

• The Architectural Design and Construction Technology Program (ADCT) is a two-year Associate of Science degreed program that has lead many of our students to careers as CADD Technicians.  These positions are often referred to as “CADD Designer” in the office of an Architect or Engineer.

What does the ADCT Program consist of?

• The program consists of a core of 15 technical courses that related to all aspects of building design and construction.  Three of these courses directly involve learning and applying AutoCadd 2000, the industry standard CADD software package.  Several of the Architectural Design courses allow the ADCT students to use CADD to develop presentation and production documentation.  All courses are offered in a logical sequence to ensure the student can progress through the program.  No prior construction or design education is required to enter the ADCT program.

What are the potential career paths for a graduate of the ADCT Program?

One of the primary advantages of the ADCT Program is the wide range of career choices that await our graduates.  The ADCT program allows our students to sit for the State of Florida’s Contractors Licensing Exam.   Many of our graduates are employed with Architectural and Engineering design firms, others are working with material supply companies, material testing labs, surveying companies and City or County government.  We have had more job offers than graduates for the past several years.  Click on the items below to learn more.
