Thinking about a career change?

Why not consider teaching!

The Hillsborough Community College Educator Preparation Institute offers an alternative avenue to begin teaching in Florida public schools. Graduates of the program earn an Alternative Preparation Certificate and are qualified to take the Professional Education Competency Exam.

The Florida Department of Education estimates that many new teachers will be needed. If you are interested in a teaching career, and hold a non-education baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, then the Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) may be right for you!

About the Program
The EPI program offers flexible course scheduling including evening, week-end, and online courses.  It is possible for a candidate to complete the program in 6-8 months.

The EPI program requires the successful completion of 7 courses or 21 credit hours.   These courses include Classroom Management, Professional Foundations, Instructional Strategies, Technology, The Teaching and Learning Process, Diversity, and Foundations of Research-Based Practices in Reading.  Candidates are required to spend from 30 - 100 hours of Field Experiences in schools.  Students are expected to demonstrate teaching competencies based on the 12 Accomplished Practices as defined by the State of Florida.

Program Cost
EPI participants pay the current tuition rate per credit hour. The total cost of the complete 21 credit hour program is a little more than $1,600.00.
