SLIP Courses
Students who wish to train to be a sign language interpreter complete a 72 credit hour Associate in Science Degree Program. The Program includes 19 credits of General Education courses. This sequenced AS Degree provides training in communication models and processes, American Sign Language, Deaf Culture, interpreting ethics and practical training in transliterating and interpreting situations.
There is also a strong sociolinguistic component to the training, with courses in the structure of ASL and the social and educational aspects of hearing loss.
