Study Abroad Programs Designed for the Community College Student
Studying abroad can be one of the most enriching and rewarding experiences of your education. By studying abroad you can expand your own views about the world, learn a new language, gain international work experience, earn college credits while learning about other cultures, make friends around the world, and learn more about yourself.
However, not every student can simply pick up and voyage off on the traditional university study abroad program. Months away from family, a huge investment, or giving up a job just aren’t options for many community college students.
A Great Alternative for Community College Students
Now, thanks to HCC’s innovative international educational programs, you can easily find yourself learning abroad. Affordably. While receiving course credits. And in the timeframe of a typical summer vacation.
In fact, this summer, why not picture yourself in:
- Belize, learning biological and environmental science while hiking through rainforests, swimming in barrier reefs, or exploring ancient Mayan architecture.
- Denmark, examining the country’s innovation in alternative energy.
- Ecuador, studying transcultural nursing practices, by visiting local medical facilities and traveling to the rainforest to learn indigenous medicinal practices.
- Spain for immersion learning of Spanish language and culture in Seville.
Learn More about Our Programs
These trips are not about sitting in a foreign university’s classrooms. You will be exploring the country, its institutions and people, and real-life examples of your field of study.
In addition to information currently posted on each country page, learn further details—including requirements, dates and costs—and register (spaces are limited, and students interested in participating are encouraged to apply early) by contacting:
Costs, Dates and Credits
In general, our Study Abroad Programs cost between $2400 and $3650, and run between 11 days and one month (with most programs running for two weeks). Financial assistance and scholarships are available to qualifying students. HCC’s Center for International Education has funding to offset up to $1,500 in program costs for a limited number of students. Some courses offer credits (students must pay additional credit fees), either through HCC or through a coalition community college.
The Troika: A Unique Study Abroad Concept Conceived by HCC
The Troika is a model based on a coalition of community college partnership and support that breaks down the barriers for students to study abroad. Today, more than 20 study abroad programs are available through the Troika—so called because at least three schools must participate in offering any one study abroad program, lessening fiscal constraints for schools and make programs more accessible and affordable to students.
