In 2010, HCC took the first step towards climate neutrality by conducting a baseline greenhouse gas inventory to quantify college-wide emissions for the Academic Year 2008/2009. The baseline study found that HCC emitted a total of 37,287 metric tons of CO2 equivalent across six different sources, most significantly student and employee commuting.

"In the summer 2010 edition of Inside@HCC, we reported our college's first findings (2008-2009 baseline year data) of the anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventory. This report summerizes results of HCC's second green house gas emissions inventory for the year 2009-2010. Results of this GHG inventory were submitted as our continued commitment to the American College and President's Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) and towards quantifying the environmental impact of the college's operations relative to greenhouse gas emissions."
