2. Prerequisite General Education and Vet Tech Courses
The Florida Department of Education requires that all Associate in Science (AS) degrees must include 15-19 credits of general education courses in the categories listed below. Twelve of the 18 General Education credits, including the Math, Science, English, and Humanities or *Social Science General Education courses must be taken prior to acceptance into the Veterinary Technology Program. In addition, the three 1-credit veterinary technology courses listed below must be taken prior to acceptance into the Veterinary Technology Program. Therefore, 15 total credit hours of prerequisites must be taken. The prerequisite veterinary technology courses are open admission to all students.
* Note: If 3 credit hours of social/behavioral science general education are taken as a prerequisite for admission, the student must take a total of 6 credit hours of humanities to complete the program’s general education requirements.
In addition, there are three veterinary technology courses

6 Credits Humanities - Any courses may be chosen from approved HCC list of transfer courses.
6 Credits Math/Science - Math—MAC 1105 (College Algebra) or MGF 1106 (Liberal Arts Mathematics) or MGF 1107 (Explorations in Mathematics) or STA 2023 Elementary Statistics
Science --- ZOO 1010C or any applicable transferable Biology or Zoology which may be substituted at the discretion of the veterinary technology committee

3 Credits Social/Behavioral Sciences - Any course may be chosen from approved HCC list of transfer courses.
