Applied Technology Diploma (11 Credit Hours)
EMT-B training is a one-semester program (11 credits) designed to prepare students to provide basic life support measures, as a member of an ambulance crew, at the scene of an accident, during transport to a hospital or medical facility, and in the medical facility. Course work combines classroom lecture, practical skills laboratory and actual patient clinical experiences.
The lecture portion (7 credits) encompasses the United States Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum for the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (1994) and meets or exceeds the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
The practical skills laboratory portion (2 credits) includes application practice and performance testing in simulated patient care situations. The clinical portion (1 credit) provides actual patient care during transport to a hospital and in the hospital setting.
Those who pass the course and receive the Applied Technology Diploma are then permitted to sit for the National Registry Exam or the Florida EMT-B Certification Examination.

Entrance Requirements
1) be at least 18 years of age 2) have already taken, or currently enrolled in HSC 1220 3) be free from physical or mental defects or diseases which might impair his/her ability to function as an EMT-B 4) provide proof of immunizations and PPD within one year of starting EMT. 5) be free from addiction to narcotics or any controlled substance. 6) attain tenth grade level reading, writing, and math on CPT or have equivalent college course work 7) submit to an FDLE Criminal Background Check

EMT-B Lab
The practical skills laboratory portion includes application practice and performance testing in simulated patient care situations. All Lab staff are certified pre-hospital healthcare workers and are available to aide the student in gaining first hand practice and knowledge. The competency-based format allows the student to learn at his or her own pace.

EMT-B Clinical
EMT-B students will attend field rotations with a licensed ambulance service to experience first-hand the responsibilities of EMTs. Hospital ER rotations are also included as part of the clinical course. The student will observe and actively participate in patient assessment and observe the hospital healthcare delivery system. The clinical portion provides actual patient care at the scene, during transport to a hospital and in a hospital setting.

Introduction to Health Sciences
This is a one (1) credit course designed to give the student a broad overview of the healthcare system. Included is information covering infectious diseases, biohazardous waste, domestic violence, infectious disease transmission, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Upon completion the student will receive a CPR for Healthcare provider card. The student should take this course as a pre-requisite to other EMT-B courses.
