Dr. Robert Chunn | Campus President

Dr. Robert Chunn has served as the Dale Mabry Campus president since January of 1999. With over 35 years of higher education experience, his tenure with Hillsborough Community College began in 1987. His higher education career began in Radiologic Technology, later becoming an associate professor, department chair and Director of Associate and Baccalaureate Degree Programs in Radiation Sciences of the College of Allied Health Sciences at Medical University of South Carolina and Trident Technical College.

He began at HCC as Dean of Health Sciences at the Dale Mabry Campus, and then served as the Brandon Campus Vice President in 1997. Dr. Chunn earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Medical College of Georgia, a Master of Education Degree from the University of Houston/Baylor College of Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from the University of Missouri. His vast experience in the Health Sciences has allowed him to lead in a campus known as the hub for Health Sciences in the HCC community.

Dr. Chunn is the proud father of two sons, both attended HCC. He is passionate about the impact that teaching in a small setting at the community college makes an impact on students and prepares them for the university.

Dr. Frank Babcock  |  Dean of Student Services

Dr. Frank Babcock offers four decades of higher education experience, particularly in counseling and student affairs. He is responsible for all student services, including enrollment services, counseling, advising, career development, student life, testing and assessment. He is also Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Dr. Babcock has also served as the chief student affairs officer at Salem Community College (NJ) and Owens Community College (OH). Dr. Babcock received his PhD in counselor education at Ohio University.

Dr. Mary Bendickson  |  Dean of Associate in Arts (Humanities)

Dr. Mary Bendickson has served as the Dean of Associate of Arts (Communications, Social and Behavioral Sciences) for the Dale Mabry Campus of Hillsborough Community College since August 2007. Her career in higher education began with her service as Mathematics Faculty in the College Preparatory Department at Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. 

Additionally, she taught high school mathematics in several states and served as Guidance Counselor for two military bases in their Off-Duty Education Offices. Her tenure with HCC began in 1999 at HCC’s off-campus site on MacDill AFB. Following that assignment, she served as the Dean of Academic Affairs for HCC’s Plant City Campus before assuming her present position at the Dale Mabry Campus..

Dr. Bendickson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Tift College (GA), a Master of Education in Counselor Education from the University of Georgia, and Doctor of Education from the University of South Florida.

Elizabeth Johnson  |  Dean of Associate in Science Programs

Ms. Elizabeth Johnson has served as the Dale Mabry Campus Dean of Associate in Science Degree Programs since 2003.  Having been employed with Hillsborough Community College since 1979, she has higher education experience, knowledge and training in the areas of Academic Affairs and Student Services.   

Ms. Johnson has a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of South Florida and a Master’s of Science degree in Management from Florida Institute of Technology.  And, she is personally committed to ensuring that the Dale Mabry Campus Associate in Science division provides a high-quality learning environment that prepares students to meet their educational needs and goals.

 Leif_Penrose

Leif Penrose | Dean of Health Sciences 

Mr. Leif Penrose has worked as an adjunct faculty, faculty, program manager, assistant professor and assistant to the dean.  He worked for the Georgia Department of Technical & Adult Education at Georgia Northwestern Technical College for over 19 years before moving to Tampa.  His professional training is in medical imaging. He holds certifications in Radiology, Computerized Tomography (CT), Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Adult Cardiac Sonography and Vascular Sonography.

Mr. Penrose holds a Masters in Health Science with an education emphasis from Nova Southeastern University, a Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration from Ottawa University and his original radiography training was at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

Special high points of his career include serving in Rwanda as a guest of the Fulbright Scholar program teaching sonography and supporting the education of the first Rwandan Sonographer.

robert_wynegar Jim Wysong

James Wysong, |  Dean of Associate in Arts (Mathematics & Sciences)

Mr. Jim Wysong has served as the Dean of Associate of Arts (Mathematics and Sciences) for the Dale Mabry Campus of Hillsborough Community College since August 2013. Prior to accepting this position, he was Professor of Earth Science and Program Manager of Sciences at the Brandon Campus of Hillsborough Community College.

Mr. Wysong joined the faculty of Hillsborough Community College in 1988, and has served on several of the college's major committees, including General Education (chair) and Campus and College-wide Tenure Committees (past chair of both). He is also actively involved in geographic and geological education workshops, post-secondary science curriculum reform, and science literacy initiatives. As a Course Director for the NSF Chautauqua Program, Mr. Wysong has conducted field programs in Iceland (five trips), Greenland, New Mexico, Tampa Bay, and the Florida Keys.

Mr. Wysong earned undergraduate degrees in Geology and Geography from the University of South Florida and holds a Master’s degree in Physical Geography from U.S.F. as well.
