After receiving an acceptance letter and student number, all students are required to meet with Academic Advisors in Room DSTU 237. This meeting will determine testing requirements. (If you have SAT or ACT Scores, please hand carry those scores to the Test Center, DSTU 203, to be entered, DO NOT rely on those sent by College Board or ACT.
New HCC students who are degree-seeking are required to attend an orientation and be tested for reading, writing, and mathematics proficiency prior to the completion of registration. The assessment of a student's Reading skills, English Language skills and and Elementary Algebra skills are necessary to place students into the appropriate courses.
Assessment instruments that are applicable for placement purposes include the Florida College Entry-Level Placement Test (FCELPT or CPT), the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and the Enhanced American College Test (E-ACT). Test scores used for placement purposes must be no more than two years old.
HCC administers the CPT to students who have not taken any of the other tests (SAT or ACT). Students with prior degrees or who are transferring with college-level English and Mathematics courses may be exempt from the testing requirement, but not orientation requirements.
The placement test will be administered on computers. The Placement Test will be given in the Test Center located on the second floor of the new Student Services Building in Room #203. (Call #253-7393 for more information). A picture ID is required (Driver's License etc. . .). | MONDAY - Thursday 8:00 am - 6:30 pm.
WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU TAKE THE CPT
After completing your Placement Test, you will be required to attend a New Student Orientation. Orientations are by appointment only. You will need to schedule an appointment by calling (813) 253-7393 or schedule in person in the Test Center. Please contact the Coordinator of Students with Disabilities if you require special accommodations at (813) 253-7031.
NO PLACEMENT TESTING OR NEW STUDENT ORIENTATIONS WILL BE HELD IF THE COLLEGE HAS CLOSED FOR A PLANNED HOLIDAY
