CPT Placement Test Information |
| The test is untimed but most students take approximately 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours to complete the test. This test is not a "pass" or "fail" test. Its sole purpose is to assist us in determining your best course for placement, so if you have not had an algebra course in years, you would not be expected to do well in this area.
Some helpful resources for students include any GED or high school equivalency study guide, basic arithmetic and algebra books, and materials covering basic grammar and sentence skills. Be prepared to do your best!
Testing is administered at the Dale Mabry, Ybor City, Brandon, Plant City, and MacDill campuses. At the Dale Mabry campus only, testing is done on a walk-in basis, and no appointments are necessary. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
It is mandatory for you to submit an HCC application ($20 fee) before taking the Placement Test. After you have submitted your application to the college and you have completed your placement test, you will need to attend New Student Orientation. You must call the Test Center (#253-7393) to make an appointment for New Student Orientations. Orientations are not done on a walk-in basis.
SAT or ACT scores may be used but they must be at least two years current.
HCC also administers English as a Second Language (ESL) test. This test is given by appointment only, so please check the ESL link for the testing dates.
