Course Objectives
MUT 1111: Music Theory I
- The student will understand and be able to define the following concepts: Time & sound; Sound waves; pitch; intensity; Timbre; Harmonics; the Harmonic series.
- The student will be able to notate on the musical staff, using the G clef, F clef, C clefs, and the grand staff.
- The student will understand meter and rhythm.
- The student will understand, notate, and count all note and rest values.
- The student will be able to write and count rhythms in simple and compound time.
- The student will understand Time Signatures.
- The student will create and identify intervals quantitatively and qualitatively.
- The student will be able to write all major scales and key signatures in all clefs.
- The student will be able to write all minor scales and key signatures in all clefs in natural, harmonic, and melodic form.
- The student will be able to write and name, from memory, all major, minor diminished and augmented triads.
