Course Objectives
MUT 1112: Music Theory II
- The student will understand and be able to define the concept of tonality.
- The student will create four-part writing of triads in root position with an understanding of
doubling and spacing.
- The student will create four-part writing of triads in root position with root movements
by 2nds, 3rds, and 5ths with attention to correct voice leading principles as outlined in the text.
- The student will create four-part writing of triads in 1st and 2nd inversion following
principle of correct voice leading.
- The student will understand 7th chords, particularly the dominant 7th and the
resolution of the tri-tone.
- The student will study basic phrase structure and construct cadences
using proper voice leading techniques.
- The student will understand the basics of non-harmonic tones and their usage.
