SAMPLE DISCUSSION FOR THE “SCHOOL OF ATHENS”: A “bad” answer: "School of Athens" is a famous painting done during the Renaissance. It shows ancient people standing around in a building with arches. Many important people are shown in this painting. The building itself was important and has loads of detail. The artist did an outstanding job when painting this work. It is considered a masterpiece. The artist painted this on the wall, but the Sistine Chapel is painted on the ceiling.
“Good” Answer: The "School of Athens" by Raphael is a Renaissance fresco on the wall of the Pope's apartments in Rome (may define fresco). Ancient philosophers are depicted in the architectural setting of an ancient Roman structure. The use of perspective was perfected during the Renaissance and in this work perspective creates the feeling of ordered space.
