HCC Presidential Showcase
Supports Student Scholarships
The 10th Annual HCC Presidential Showcase welcomed 360 guests, including community leaders, HCC Foundation board directors,
HCC Trustees and HCC faculty, staff and administrators. Held at the Tampa Marriott Hotel in April, the festive evening included a
reception, dinner and silent auction. Those present honored the first HCC Distinguished Alumna, Dottie Berger MacKinnon, and
awarded the corporate Champion of Education to TECO Energy, received by John Ramil, President and CEO. In addition, three HCC
Outstanding Alumni were recognized—MarDee Buchman, HCC Trustee; The Honorable Catherine Peek McEwen; and Paul Davis,
Strawberry Festival Executive Director.
HCC student volunteers representing all campuses welcomed guests while
they enjoyed the music of HCC’s jazz trio. Students and faculty achievements
were highlighted along with the HCC Choir, the HCC Stage Band, the HCC
Visual Arts & Photography programs and the HCC Culinary program. The
auction featured items including trips, sporting tickets & memorabilia, art,
restaurant gift cards, and local family adventure passes.
The dinner program was hosted by Rick Nafe, Tampa Bay Rays, and Tom
Pepin, Pepin Distrbuting, thanked sponsors and guests for their support.
Dr. Ken Atwater and Steve Cona, HCC Alumni Leadership Board president,
recognized alumni honorees.
Prior to the event, Brian Ford, Tampa Bay Buccaneers VP of Business
Administration, hosted the Presidential Showcase Honorary Committee at
a luncheon held at One Buc Place and provided a tour of the largest facility
in the NFL.
Blake Casper, Caspers Company CEO, greeted generous Showcase sponsors at his Davis Islands home. Allstate Construction, Inc.
sponsored this entertaining evening, and the weather cooperated for a spectacular sunset on Tampa Bay.
The HCC Foundation raised over $100,000 to be utilized for scholarships to make educational dreams come true for HCC students in
need of financial assistance. Over the past decade, event proceeds and state match have exceeded $1 million, providing access and
support to many HCC students. Dr. Atwater aspires to make the college’s signature event bigger and better to draw more patrons to
learn about the college and its talented students.
