 Dr. Carlos Soto, Brandon Campus President

Dr. Soto has served as the Brandon Campus President,  since 1999.  He is responsible for the effective management and general administration and operation of the campus.  He promotes and enhances the educational programs in the areas of academic affairs, student and support services.  From 1996 to 1999 he served as the Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Milwaukee Area Technical College, where he was responsible for all instructional components of the college - which included four campuses, eight instructional divisions, 7 centers, and over 110 instructional programs.  He also served as the Dean of Health Occupations from 1987 to 1996.  Dr. Soto has held faculty positions at Northern Kentucky University and Southern Illinois University. He holds a Doctorate in Adult Technical and Higher Education from the University of Cincinnati, OH and a Masters and Bachelors degree from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, IL.  Dr. Soto has extensive experience in the implementation, management, and operation of federally sponsored projects.

   
 Oscar Benavides, Distinguished Alumnus
 
Oscar

Oscar Benavides is a recent graduate of Hillsborough Community College.  In 2010, he was an intregal member of the Black, Brown & College Bound Steering Committee that plans an Annual Summit in Tampa, Florida. This Summit draws educators, students and experts from around the country to address the issues and challenges facing African American and Latino males in higher education.  Oscar also served as a member of the student panel for the Fourth Annual BBCB Summit in 2010. Finally, Oscar also designed the logo that the Summit Committee has adopted for all its publications and marketing. Oscar leaves a legacy of service and commitment to the College.   He graduated from HCC with an Associate in Arts degree in May 2010. He is currently a transfer student at the University of South Florida, Tampa and plans to attend law school upon graduation.
