The Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Martin Luther King (MLK) 2014 - 2015 Project focuses on activities, volunteerism and community support in the Tampa area, reflecting the principles and philosophy of MLK. The project incorporates two major components: (1) HCC Student MLK Community Service Learning Projects, (2) Existing Tampa Community Based Programs & Organizations.
HCC Student MLK Community Service Learning Project
HCC student programs and organizers are invited to submit proposals for a structural volunteer project in the Tampa community that emulates MLK's beliefs in helping the “least of these.” These projects must connect to an existing community center or organization in the Tampa Bay community. Proposals must include a written application (including an essay), description of volunteer project and goal of the project. Select faculty members or HCC’s college-wide Diversity Council will determine which student programs or organizations meet the MLK Service Learning Project Criteria. The scholarly award(s) will be presented during MLK celebration program.
Existing Traditional MLK Programs & Other Organizations in the Tampa Community
The ultimate goal of the community support component is to include and expand a larger participation of the total Tampa Bay community to the MLK “Day On” celebration. The HCC Equity Office, along with a community based professional consultant, will be responsible for the support and promotion of the existing MLK Programs and the other community groups.
