Existing Traditional MLK Programs & Other Organizations in the Tampa Community
The HCC Equity Office, along with Marion and Associates, will be responsible for the oversight and reporting of the existing MLK Programs and the other community groups. Examples of the sponsorships for community based programs, celebrations, and volunteer activities will include purchasing tickets for disadvantaged persons or groups to attend special programs; support for motivational speakers; program printing and marketing services; transportation costs, small receptions etc. The ultimate goal of the community support and sponsorship of the community program and organization is to include and expand a larger participation of the total Tampa Bay community to support MLK “Day On” celebration.
The Tampa Bay community historically celebrates MLK activities and programs through the Tampa Organization of Black Affairs (TOBA) Breakfast (6:45 am to 9:00 am) on MLK Day, the Interfaith MLK program from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on MLK Day and the MLK Parade. The Black Heritage Festival also offers an array of activities during MLK week. The HCC MLK Project is committed to sponsor and support these traditional activities.
