VPN Instructions - Windows 7

Purpose — This web page is intended to walk you through the process of setting up a VPN connection to Hillsborough Community College in order to gain access to internal resources from outside the college. Click here if you prefer a printable version of the instructions.

Note: A VPN connection should only be created on College owned computers that have been issued to you. Under no circumstances should this be used on your personal computer.

1 Open a web browser and navigate to http://www.hccfl.edu/oit/info/L2TPwin7.zip. N/A
2 Download the Windows 7 VPN connection file. N/A
3 Once the file has completed downloading, right click on the file and select "Extract All". Refer to the image to the right. Extract All
4 A new window will appear asking you where you want to place the extracted files. Click "Browse". Refer to the image to the right. Browse
5 In the browse window, scroll all the way to the top and select "Desktop", then click "OK". Refer to the image to the right. Desktop
6 You will be taken back to the "Select a Destination" window. Click "Extract". Refer to the image to the right. Select a Destination
7 Find the extracted "L2TP win7" folder located on your desktop and double click on it to open the folder. Refer to the image to the right. L2TPwin7
8 Inside this folder you will see an application called "L2TPwin7". Double click on this application. Refer to the image to the right. Application
9 A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to install the "HCC-VPN" Click "Yes". Refer to the image to the right. HCC VPN
10 The next window that will appear will be HCC's Acceptable Use Policy. Read the policy and if you agree, click "Yes". If you do not agree, click "No" and the installation will exit. Refer to the image to the right. Acceptable Use Policy
11 In the next window, ensure that you select "Add a shortcut the desktop" and then click "OK". Refer to the image to the right. Shortcut
12 The next window will ask you for your network credentials. This is your HCC NETID credentials. The same credentials you use to login to Outlook to check your email.

Fill in the "User name" and "Password" fields appropriately.

The "logon domain" field is optional. You may enter "family" in this field. Once you have entered the required network credentials, click "Connect". Refer to the image to the right.

13 Once connected the HCC-VPN icon will change in your "Network Connections" window. Refer to the image to the right. Icon
14 To disconnect from the HCC-VPN, double click on the HCC-CPN shortcut located on your desktop. Refer to the image to the right. Disconnect
15 At the bottom of the window, click "Disconnect". Refer to the image to the right. Click Disconnect
