HCC’s Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) played a role in this year’s Feeding America Tampa Bay Empty Bowls 2011: Hand in Hand for Hunger event. SNA nursing students, along with SNA advisor Mary Viszt, were excited to participate in the food bank’s largest annual event held in downtown Tampa on November 18th – 20th. Patrons selected from among hundreds of charming commemorative bowls handcrafted by Tampa Bay area school children—a reminder that there are always empty bowls to fill. The event offered guests a simple meal of soup, bread, fruit, and water, similar to soup kitchen fare, and also included family games and entertainment. Funding from Empty Bowls provides nutritious food to hunger relief organizations and assists those who struggle with hunger. Together with the wonderful community of Tampa Bay, SNA nursing students supported the mission of “Ending Hunger, Nourishing Hope.”
