We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to take a walk in the park--the weather was cool, crisp, and sunny. The annual American Heart Association Heart Walk was held on the morning of Saturday, November 5. Everyone met at the parking lot just south of Raymond James Stadium where tents were set up for sponsors who gave away trinkets, food, and information on their services. The three-mile (or one-mile) walk started at 9 am and wound through Al Lopez Park.
HCC had 13 teams, with a total of 416 walkers, close to our goal of 500. Over $1.5 million was raised this year, with HCC raising a total of $7,398.85.
Our top fund-raiser was District’s own Kimberly Baker, who raised over $1,000. Top team captain was Myria Evans, faculty member from the Dale Mabry Campus, who recruited over 100 walkers, many of whom are HCC students. As a reward for their efforts, they were treated to a very nice breakfast with Dr. Atwater.
