With the success of last year’s Kids’ College Summer Camps, HCC is looking to rev up summer camps again this June and July! Last year’s campers were involved in fun and learning facilitated by professional instructors of dance, art, healthcare, photography, chess, and fashion design.
Young performers ages 7-12 learned what it takes to put on a dance show and performed at the end of the week for parents, family, and friends! This dance troupe was led by three of HCC’s wonderful dance instructors—Miss Claire, Miss Irene, and Miss Elsa from the Ybor City Campus dance program!
At another camp, we saw young, future healthcare professionals learning to perform CPR and first aid, while one brave camper got hooked up to an EKG machine for all to see his heart beat on an EKG monitor! The campers learned about the various careers available in healthcare.
Chess-playing campers took turns making their strategic moves on a giant chess board with three-foot-high chess pieces. It was amazing to see all the other campers around the room working quietly on improving their critical thinking skills in playing each other all week, culminating in a week-end chess tournament.
Fashion divas created purses out of old jeans. Calling on their imaginative, creative juices, girls learned what it takes to make customized tutus from the creative process to seeing a professional sewing their beautiful creations to model at the end of the week.
Kids instilled with a passion for form, shapes, and lighting explored their photographic eyes through the camera lens in the Art and Photo Camp! In the morning, campers explored photo composition, and then in the afternoons, the art instructor put them through the paces of using color and different materials to create masterpieces of art using their pictures shot in the morning.
This year’s similar camps for ages 7-12 will be running from 9:00 am-4:00 pm and will include early drop-off and late pick-up times at 7:30 am-5:30 pm, respectively. We are planning on expanding the programs to another area of town, so please spread the word that HCC has summer camps called Kids’ College.
Spring Break Camp is coming March 12-16! For the first time, Kids’ College is offering a Chess Camp during the Hillsborough County Schools Spring Break. Go to www.HCCcontinuingEd.com to register your kids online.
