HCC Lady Hawks Volleyball News
The Lady Hawks are Conference Champions! On October 11, 2012, HCC swept SCF in 3 sets closing the last set out 25-13. The Blackout Game was a huge success—with all teams supporting each other as well as students, faculty and staff showing their team spirit by wearing all black. The Student Government Association sponsored t-shirt giveaways for students and a fan section featuring Henry, the Hawk—who was eager to dance and cheer with the audience.

The Hawks got strong performances from MB Francesca Indoni and OHs Jenna Kirkwood and Andy Tauai. "We played to win tonight instead of not to lose," explained Larkin. "Our blocking and defense was sound, and Franny was a beast." Setter Mariam Maldonado served up the assists for the Hawks who kept #10 SCF off balance all night. "The black out the gym crowd was awesome. Thanks to all in attendance for their support," added Larkin. Alumni Crissi Dejiulio, Danielle Priest, and Claudia Cabrera came home to support the 2012 team.

On October 24, 2012, the news of great results for seven Lady Hawks earning conference awards!

Jenna Kirkwood was named Suncoast Conference Player of the Year, and Gary Larkin was named Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year. "Jenna took a lot of big swings for us during the conference season, and she was a warrior in our final match versus SCF when we needed her," said Larkin. "I'm proud of her." Other players named 1st Team All-conference are Andrea Tauai, Carmen Fernandez, Zoe Sostre, and Francesca Indoni. Yaidimar Santiago was named 2nd Team All-conference. "Individual awards are nice-- you can tell your kids about it one day-- but team awards are how we measure ourselves," explained Larkin. "We still have more work to do."
