The 2nd Annual Taste of Westshore, presented by Shutts & Bowen, Attorneys at Law, took place on Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 1 to 5 p.m. at HCC’s Dale Mabry campus.
Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of unlimited food and drink tastings from many of Westshore’s best restaurants, an art display featuring local artists and live entertainment. The event is produced by the Westshore Alliance and the HCC Hospitality Program. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the HCC Foundation to fund scholarships for students in culinary & hospitality programs.
The event was a huge success, with students, faculty and staff working every angle of event planning and management. In addition to showcasing Westshore’s best restaurants, the event gave students in HCC hospitality programs hands-on learning experience in managing a major culianry event. “Culinary students get the opportunity to apply kitchen skills learned in class by cooking with some of the best chefs in the Westshore district,” says Fred Jaeger, Program Manager.
Participating restaurants included A La Carte Event Pavilion, Aqua Bar & Grille, Blue Water Grill/Wyndham Hotel Tampa, Brio Tuscan Grille, Centre Club, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, GrillSmith, HCC Hospitality Management, ItaliAsia, Justhai, La Teresita Restaurant Bakery and Tex Mex, McDonald’s Restaurants/Caspers Company, Pelagia Trattoria, Rollin' Oats Market & Café, Roy's Hawaiian Fusion, Seasons 52, Shula’s Steak House, Smoothie King Kennedy, Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q, St. James Lounge/ Sheraton Suites Tampa Airport, Sweet Tomatoes, Tahitian Inn Café and Zaxby's. The VIP Area offered guests access to an air conditioned lounge, private restrooms, craft beer and specialty wine tastings and more.
Among the delectable dessert treats, the favorite among HCC was, of course, our very own students, who featured a twist on an old favorite, Plantain Foster.
