Students Receive Money from the National Society of Collegiate Scholars

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) is “an honors organization that recognizes and elevates high achievers…NSCS members are deeply committed to leadership, service and scholarship and, as a result, are impacting their campus and local communities every day.” Hillsborough Community College was the first community college in the nation to create an NSCS chapter which was founded in 2009. Since then the HCC chapter students have been one of the most active NSCS chapters, and in May 2012 the chapter was awarded the distinction of NSCS Community College Award.

Since 2009, NSCS has awarded HCC’s chapter over $15,000.00 in student scholarships. This past fall 2011, Klenton Perry received a $500.00 Outstanding Scholar Award and Mariam Saifee received the $1,000.00 Merit Scholarship. This spring 2012, chapter secretary Ada Sulbaran was awarded the Outstanding Chapter Officer Award in the amount of $500.00. The National Society of Collegiate Scholars will continue to make scholarships a key part of the organization’s mission in order to “help our members attain their goals and commend them for their outstanding academic excellence as well their leadership and service achievements.” You may check out more information at www.nscs.org.
