In this edition of Online @ HCC, we are proud to acknowledge the work of our own faculty and staff and celebrate their professional accomplishments.

Plant City English instructor, Dr. Maribeth Mobley has been selected to receive the Heritage Award by the Plant City Photo Archives and History Center. Dr. Mobley was selected in recognition of her years of service to the greater Plant City community as an educator and as a volunteer with civic organizations.
SouthShore campus president, Dr. Allen Witt has been elected 2012 Chair or the SouthShore Roundtable. The roundtable is composed of all chambers of commerce and major community organizations in Southern Hillsborough County. The roundtable provides a forum for the discussion of important issues impacting the region.
Brandon Campus earth science instructor, Dr. James Wysong Jr was voted by his colleagues as the 2012 NISOD Award Winner for his contributions to teaching excellence.
SouthShore Campus reading instructor, Karen Boosinger was honored by the American Business Women's Association for her service to local students. It is the first time a college faculty member was recognized.
Plant City Campus Learning Resource Center Technician, Michelle Monteleon was elected as the 2012 Chair of the Association of Florida College’s Learning Resource Council.
Assistant to the President for Special Projects, Dr. Joan Holmes has been elected to a one-year term on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education effective March 13th.
Vice President of Administration/CFO, Barbara Larson was a finalist for the Tampa bay Business journal’s CFO of the Year award in the government category.
Nursing Program Manager, Rise Sandrowitz was elected to be the incoming president of the Florida Council of Nursing Education Administrators. This is a significant achievement and reflects her dedication to Nursing education.
Program Manager for Opticianry, Bill Underwood was selected to be a director on the National Contact Lens Examiners Board of Directors.
The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Florida Academic Team recognizes outstanding students in The Florida College System. This distinction is given to honor their academic achievement, leadership and service to the community.
The Chancellor of The Florida College System, in partnership with the PTK Florida Region hosts an annual awards ceremony to recognize members of the All-Florida Academic Team at which students are presented with an honorary medallion.

Congratulations to the HCC Fire Academy. 100% of their students passed the State of Florida Minimum Standards Certification Examination which is required before they can be employed as a firefighter in Florida. HCC's students were also the highest scoring among all of the training programs on the west coast of Florida.
Congratulations to Lady Hawk softball coach Ray Seymour who won his 600th game last week. Coach Seymour is in his 21st season as head coach of the Hawks Fastpitch Softball Team. Great job coach! Be sure to follow the team at http://www.hccfl.edu/athletics/softball/staff.aspx.
Congratulations to two of our Lady Hawk softball players, Laura Downs and Khyrstyne Ely, who were both named Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Softball Players of the Week.
Laura, a freshman from Boynton Beach, Fla., went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three games last week. On March 22, she tossed both games of a doubleheader against South Florida. In game one, she struck out eight batters in five innings and allowed only 2 hits. In the nightcap, she allowed three hits over six innings and struck out12. Her final appearance of the week was against Illinois Valley on March 24 when she tossed a complete-game five-hitter – she struck out 12. For the week, Downs pitched 18 shutout innings and allowed ten hits while striking out 32.
Khyrstyne, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., batted .478 (13-for-23) with 13 runs scored, one triple, three home runs and five RBIs in seven games. Ely also walked three times and had a .609 on-base percentage. In a doubleheader vs. Western Ontario on February 21, she was 6-for-8 and scored six runs. Against Polk State on February 25, she went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs, and she finished the week with a 2-for-3 effort against top-ranked Tallahassee, also on February 25.
