The summer session is a time for respective campus Student Government Associations (SGAs) to prepare for the coming year. They do so in a variety of ways, from planning Student Life events to cleaning up common areas.
This year, representatives from the Plant City Campus chose to further their education on the legislative process by attending the Florida Model Legislature Conference in Tallahassee. Incoming SGA Vice-President Jayme Joyner, Outgoing SGA Secretary and FCSSGA State Community Service Chairperson Melanie Bettis and Outgoing SGA Senator and FCSSGA District Three Coordinator Jonas Presendieu were in attendance for the three day conference. From May 30th to June 1st the students were immersed in a simulation of a State Legislature. There, they were able to write, debate and vote on legislation while representing the people of their legislative districts. This conference is especially valuable as all of the HCC SGAs have become increasingly more active in lobbying their Senators and Representatives for issues affecting students state-wide. The Plant City Campus was joined by students from the Dale Mabry and Brandon campuses.
