WELCOME TO THE STUDENT ACTIVITIES OFFICE AT THE PLANT CITY CAMPUS
All students are members of the Student Government Association (SGA). The SGA is the medium through which students can actively participate in the programs and policy making procedures of the College. It serves as the means of communication between students and the administration.
It is the goal of the College to have an SGA established for each campus. Each campus will have its own Executive Officers and Legislative Branch. It is hoped that this will create an atmosphere of participatory student governance that will result in greater student participation in student clubs and organizations as well as in student government.
It is the responsibility of the SGA to spend, in a fair and equitable manner, the Student Activities Fees which each student pays in their tuition.
Students interested in serving as senators are required to apply for a position, be enrolled at the campus they plan to represent, and be of good academic standing (i.e., minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average for all courses attempted inclusively of college preparatory). FIRST TERM HCC STUDENTS ARE EXEMPT FROM THIS REQUIREMENT.
Each campus has their own Student Government Association which works independently from each other on the majority of projects. Occasionally, the SGAs come together and plan college-wide activities.
Is it similar to Student Council? Yes! However, SGA members are responsible fiscally for the Student Activities Fees which each student pays in his/her tuition.
Is it a clique? No! We have a diversity of students from our geographic area whom are committed to service both the campus and the community-at-large.
Is it a hassle free commitment! No! You will find that during the debates which occur in the SGA meetings that you will be tested. You will be asked to contribute much of yourself and in turn, will ask much of your fellow students, the faculty, and the Administration. As with everything we do in life, there are things you will love about SGA and things you detest. Overall, it is a great learning experience, one that will allow you to grow and become confident. And it looks good on your resume!
Your ideas and your commitment are important to the SGA, the Campus, and to the College as a whole.
