Community College and Workforce Education System — Overview

There are 28 locally-governed public community colleges and 39 school district technical centers in the Florida Community College and Workforce Education System. While governed by local boards, the colleges and technical centers are coordinated under the jurisdiction of the the State Board of Education. Administratively, the Chancellor of Community Colleges and Workforce Education is the chief executive officer of the system, reporting to the Commissioner of the State of Education who serves as the chief executive officer of Florida's K-20 Education System.

Policy of Florida's Community College and Workforce Education System generates from activities of the State Board of Education (SBE) and is authorized by the Florida Legislature. The SBE meets monthly to discuss policy and consider and approve system decision items. Follow activities of the Board from the Florida Department of Education website at: http://www.fldoe.org/default.asp.
