Hillsborough Community College has been in operation for over 35 years and has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges since 1971. HCC offers the associate degree and has students enrolled continuously in its degree programs (Trendline 2005, College fact book, p. 22 ;  Catalog, pg. 85-86; Course Schedule online ).

During the 2004-2005 academic year, there were a total of 24,568 students enrolled in degree programs, as well as certificates and diplomas (2004-2005 AA1A Verification Report, p.17 ).
