Hillsborough Community College has a clear and comprehensive mission statement that guides us in strategic planning, decision-making, and operations. Please see Core Requirement 2.5 for more information. The mission reads as follows:
“Hillsborough Community College, a public, comprehensive institution of higher education, empowers students to excel through its superior teaching and service in an innovative learning environment.”
Hillsborough Community College's mission statement was developed by a diverse committee of internal and external stakeholders (Strategic Planning report). The mission was communicated to the College community for additional review and was then adopted by the HCC Board of Trustees ( HCC Board Meeting Minutes, August 2003 ). The mission was communicated to local community leaders through a direct-mail campaign. The mission is presented in every major external College publication (e.g. HCC Catalog, Student Handbook, and scrolling on HCC website). Additionally, the mission is displayed prominently on every campus and at the District Administration Offices.
The mission statement has been periodically reviewed by the Board. The mission was most recently revised and adopted by the Board in August, 2003 and prior to that, in 1998 (HCC Board Meeting Minutes, February 1998,). The current biennial planning process provides opportunity for mission review every other year.
