What is the QEP?

The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a key component of the reaffirmation process required by the Commission on Colleges (COC) of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The Commission's new "Principles of Accreditation" requires institutions seeking accreditation or reaffirmation of accreditation with the Commission to develop "a carefully designed and focused course of action that addresses one or more crititical issues related to enhancing student learning." The plan must address:

  • A consensus among college constituency groups that the plan will result in significant, even transforming, improvements in the quality of student learning
  • Broad-based institutional participation and agreement on the topic or issues addressed by the QEP
  • A careful review of best practices related to the topic or issue
  • Allocations of adequate human and financial resources to develop, implement, and sustain the QEP
  • Implementation strategies that include a clear timeline and assignment of responsibilities
  • A structure established for evaluation the extent to which the goals set for the plan are attained
