All Student Services In-Service

Please join me and your colleagues for the 2012 Spring SSEM In-Service on Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Dale Mabry Campus.  Lunch will be available from 12:00 - 1:30 in the cafeteria.  We have been invited to join the Hope Scholars Program "Empowering Men of Color for Higher Education Male Summit" for lunch.

Our In-Service Program will begin at 1:30 pm in the Library Auditorium, Room 106.  We have an informative and exciting program planned.  Wearing your HCC or favorite sports team apparel is welcomed.  Looking forward to seeing you all on the 30th.

Student Assistance Program (SAP)

Corporate Care Works (CCW) has been selected to provide services to HCC students in crisis.  Benefits include up to six in-person counseling sessions per problem situation per year for each HCC student and access to an immediate HelpLine, available 24/7.   This program will assist with stress, family problems, conflicts, alcohol/drug problems and any other personal concern that might adversely affect academic performance.   Licensed CCW counselors will provide sessions by conducting an assessment, short-term counseling, and/or linkage to community resources based on the student or his/her family members'  needs and/or counselor recommendations.  These services are confidential, free of charge and will be provided within a 30 mile radius from the student's work or home location whenever possible.

CCW will also provide referrals to appropriate childcare, eldercare, legal, financial and community services for each student and eligible family member requesting such assistance.  Phone and web-based services are also included. Click here for a flyer with more detailed information.

HCC Commencement – Is scheduled for Friday, May 4th at 2:00 pm. We have a few new additions to this year’s ceremony. Staff is invited to order their regalia and walk in the procession with faculty and students; and PSAV graduates will be invited to participate in the ceremony exercises. The ceremony will be held at the Florida State Fairgrounds with a president’s breakfast for all of the candidates prior to the event. We look forward to another successful exercise and celebration in honor of our graduates

Financial Aid

Financial Aid Central Processing Center - The Financial Aid transition, to centralized processing, began with the Dale Mabry and South Shore campuses on February 1, 2012. The Brandon campus was added in March and the  process will continue to follow the Financial Aid re-engineering plan. It is our goal to have processes centralized to the Central Processing Center for all campuses by April in preparation for the Fall 2012 semester.

Tips to Share with Students about Applying for Financial Aid:

1. Assume you're eligible. Don't rule yourself out because of income or academics.

2. File your FAFSA as early as possible. Some federal financial aid is allotted on a first come, first served basis, so if a student with lesser need applies before a student with greater need, the student with lesser need will get more financial aid because they were in line sooner. File your FAFSA as soon after January 1 of each year as possible to ensure you are awarded the maximum amount of financial aid.

3. Minimize errors on the FAFSA by utilizing the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.

4. The color of the FAFSA is different each year. This year, student-related items are in orange on the paper FAFSA and blue online. Items for the parent(s) are in purple.

5. The FAFSA is free. If ever a FEE is requested, you are on the wrong website.

6. Remember, now is the time to fill out applications for additional scholarships.
