IV. Plus Loans Information |
Parents of dependent classified students who are in need of funds to sponsor their son/daughter’s education may apply for a Federal Parent Loan (PLUS). Hillsborough Community College has agreements with three banks to process PLUS loans electronically. Parents are encouraged to select one of the three lenders for expeditious processing of the PLUS loan. The lending institutions that will provide electronic PLUS loan processing are Wachovia/Educaid, Bank of America and Chase. There will be a delay of processing PLUS loans from other lending institutions due to manual processing requirements.
Once the parent completes a PLUS loan on line, the lender or guarantee agency (SALLIE MAE) will forward to the parent and the college a pre-approval or denial notification. Students whose parents are approved for the PLUS loan must complete an HCC Student Agreement and Acknowledgement Form. All students are encouraged to also complete the FASFA application. Students may apply online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

V. Return of Title IV Funds |
You must contact the Financial Aid Office prior to withdrawing from classes. The U.S. Department of Education now requires the institution to return a percentage of Title IV funds for all students who stop attending all of their classes prior to completing 60% of the semester. This procedure may require you to repay a percentage of a Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Student Loan, or Florida Academic Competitiveness Grant. You may click here for 2008-2009 Return of Title IV dates. |
VI. Standards of Academic Progress |
In order to remain eligible to receive Title IV, Student Financial Assistance (SFA) program funds while attending HCC, students must make steady progress toward their chosen academic goals. This requirement is known as the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirement. The SAP policy has three standards that a student must meet in order to remain eligible to receive Title IV SFA a qualitative standard, a quantitative standard, and a time standard. At HCC the qualitative standard requires recipients to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0. The quantitative standard requires recipients to satisfactorily complete 67 percent of all courses they attempt. The time standard requires recipients to complete their academic program by the time they have attempted 150 percent of the credits required in their programs. Standards of progress evaluations occur at the end of fall and spring semesters. Students who fail to meet the SAP standards will be placed on probation for one term. If after one probationary term students are not making satisfactory progress, they will lose their eligibility for financial assistance. In order to regain eligibility, students must submit an Appeal for Reinstatement of Financial Aid. You may print the form below and submit it to your HCC Financial Aid Office.
