43rd Annual Commencement Ceremony - Friday, May 4, 2012 

HCC Commencement Reminder– This year's ceremony will be held on Friday, May 4th at 2:00 pm at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Staff is invited to order their regalia and walk in the procession with faculty and students. Cap, gowns and invitations are available from the HCC Bookstore through Wednesday, May 2. 

New Director of Financial Aid 

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Tierra Smith, HCC’s new Director of Financial Aid. Tierra comes to us from the University of Tampa where she served as the Associate Director of Financial Aid. Tierra started on April 26th and will continue the re-engineering of Financial Aid and improvement of services and processing. Thank you to Mr. Edgar Martinez, Associate Director of Financial Aid for the tremendous time and effort he dedicated to managing the Financial Aid operations while we searched for a new director. During this semester he moved the re-engineering plan forward to where it is today.

New Payment Process  

As announced in the HCC Student In-Service on March 30th the process for non-payment deregistration is changing beginning fall 2012.  The college finance department studied historical data related to student debt to identify reasons why students end up in collections. Although there are many reasons, deferments for financial aid applicants without complete files, was a significant culprit.

The team from financial aid, registrar, finance and call center will be traveling to all campuses  to discuss the impact, management, and effect this will have on HCC students and staff. They are endorsing “one message” for each student scenario, thus calling it a “Roadshow”. The main goal in this collaboration is to improve communication and consistency of information.

Early June dates are being planned. The team is excited about having maximum staff members to share their face-to-face message and answer questions. There will be print materials and a video session to reference throughout the academic year.  

Important Dates:

Students applying for Financial Aid must submit all required documents by July 13, 2012 for the fall 2012 term. Any student submitting financial aid documents after July 13, 2012 will be expected to pay for their classes or sign up for the Tuition Installment Plan (TIPS).   All Tuition and fees for the Fall 16 Week semester are due August 10, 2012.  

Financial Aid Priority Awarding Deadline Dates: 
**Fall 2012- July 13, 2012
**Spring 2013 – November 1, 2012
**Summer 2013 – April 1, 2013

Submitting all required documents by the Financial Aid Priority Awarding Deadline will ensure payment for registered courses for all Financial Aid eligible students.

Student Assistance Program (SAP)

 

Counseling Services are available to our students free of charge.  HCC has contracted with Corporate Care Works (CCW) to provide free, professional, confidential counseling both telephonically and in person.  A wide range of topics can be addressed through this program, including mental health counseling, budgeting and other financial concerns, and assistance with child care and elder care resources.
