VISUAL ART DEPARTMENT, Hillsborough Community College
SUBMISSION FORM FOR HCC 2013 39th ANNUAL JURIED STUDENT FINE ART EXHIBITION (PDF FILE)
As a predominately visual and image-conscious culture, the ability to effectively read the visual language of imagery has become a crucial social skill. To paraphrase Walter Benjamin, "Those who cannot interpret imagery will be the illiterate of the future".
With this in mind, the Visual Art Department at Hillsborough Community College is committed to cultivating an educated student body that recognizes and understands the power that images wield, in both historical and contemporary contexts, while also being able to command the foundations of that visual lexicon to their own ends and means.
To this end, the Visual Art Department offers two degree paths: An AA in Art and and AA in Graphic Design.
The AA in Art is a pre-major for students who want to pursue a four-year college/university degree in such fields as Fine Arts, Art Education and Art History. The track offeres foundation courses in studio skills and studio methods. Major studies include, ceramics, design, digital media, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.
The AA in Graphic Design is a pre-major for students who wish to pursue a four-year college/university degree in graphic design or commercial arts. Careers include creating graphics for posters, magazines, graphic novels, web pages, newspapers, and other media formats.
