ART 2750C CERAMICS I
INSTRUCTOR:  Tom Judge

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is an introductory course that emphasizes the ceramic process from moist clay to fired ware.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The objective of this course is the study of basic ceramic shaping techniques, glazing, decorating and firing.
Upon successful completion of this course, the students should be able to perform ceramic hand and wheel forming techniques,
glazing and firing techniques, kiln loading and firing operations and apply design concepts in creating ceramic forms.
 

 
ART 2751C CERAMICS II
INSTRUCTOR:  Tom Judge
PREREQUISITE:  ART 2750C Ceramics I

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course emphasizes the processes of casting, wheel-thrown forms, hand building and glaze formulation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The objective of this course is to provide a more advanced study of techniques in ceramics synthesizing basic skills with more advanced concepts and techniques of forming clay, surface decoration, glazing and firing.
 

 
ART 2752C CERAMICS III

PREREQUISITE:  ART 2751C Ceramics II

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course emphasizes individual ceramics projects.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The objective of this course is to provide a more advanced study of select techniques and processes in ceramics which allow advanced projects, theory and practice of ceramics as an art form and a personal expressive medium, to research specific processes techniques and artists which are relevant to the student's particular interest, and to self-assign projects which will expand personal development while also producing a coherent grouping of works which are of exhibition quality.
 

 
ART 2901C INDEPENDENT STUDY IN CERAMICS
INSTRUCTOR:  Tom Judge
PREREQUISITE:  ART 2750C Ceramics I

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course  is designed to establish a framework for further self-learning in various areas of ceramics, for the advanced student.  The student will shape the course to fit their needs by planning activities and preparing a contract with an art faculty member.  The contract will specifically outline a specific project, or a particular set of goals and requirements that the student wishes to achieve.  The contract must be satisfactorily completed and reviewed by the assigned faculty member.  May be taken four times for credit.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The objective of this course is to allow advanced students to work independently with limited supervision in order to fulfill the designed contract/develop sufficient skills in the particular medium to enable them to complete the contracted goals/increase awareness
of the technical aspects of the chosen medium and its techniques/ produced a finished project or portfolio which explores the outlined
requirements of the contract.
