Private Security is an expanding field within Criminal Justice. Hillsborough Community College now offers college level courses in Private Security and Investigations. These courses are college credit classes which can also be used toward an A.S. or A.A.S. Degree in Criminal Justice.
The Security Training Courses are designed to prepare graduates for work in private security and investigations. They are also designed for students who are pursuing a career in law enforcement and criminal investigation.
Enrollment is open to H.C.C. students and non-students alike and requires only a High School Diploma, subject to HCC enrollment policies.
PRIVATE SECURITY TRAINING CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
A student can receive a Hillsborough Community College Certificate of Completion in Private Security Training upon successful completion of 6 credits in Private Security courses.
Students must successfully complete Introduction to Security and Introduction to Private Investigations to receive this certificate of completion.
Please note that these are undergraduate courses to be used to obtain a college degree or for career development. These classes are not offered for the purposes of obtaining a Security or P.I. license. Completing these classes will not meet the requirements of the State of Florida for Security or P.I. licensing. For licensing classes, please contact the H.C.C. Criminal Justice Institute Security Training Center.

PRIVATE SECURITY TRAINING COURSES OFFERED
SCC-1000 - Introduction to Security
This course will examine the origins and development of security from medieval England to current times. The concept of security will be covered as a response to and a reflection of society’s structure. This course will cover the various aspects of security to include community, retail, corporate, business, and industrial problems and concerns as well as the governmental and legal aspects of security. The use of security equipment and loss prevention will also be covered.
SCC-1011 - Introduction to Private Investigations
This course will provide students with an overview of the private investigation field. The course will focus on employment opportunities, history, evolution, methods, and management of private investigations, sources of information, investigative technology, and ethical, public policy, and legal considerations related to investigations in the private sector.
