Chet Tharpe 


Judge Tharpe graduated from South Texas College of Law in 1982.  Judge Tharpe worked with the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office for approximately five years and served as Division Chief for the Plant City Office during that time.  He then worked as a sole practitioner for approximately three and one-half years, handling family, criminal defense, and personal injury cases.  Judge Tharpe was invested as a Circuit Judge in January of 1991.  His first assignment was to the Family Law Division for 17 months.   He was then assigned to the Juvenile Division from 1992 to 1995, and  the Criminal Justice Division from 1995 to 2006.  In March 2006, he was assigned to a specialized division handling sex and child abuse offenses.  He then  worked in the East Circuit Division and then the Family Law Division. Presently, Judge Tharpe is assigned to the Criminal Justice Division handling sex offender and child abuse cases. Has been a member of the Board of Governors for Shriner’s Children’s Hospital since 2002, and was elected chairman of the Board in December, 2008.
