CJSA October 22nd Membership Event Was a Total Success
On Thursday, October 22nd, 2009, our HCC Criminal Justice Student Association (CJSA)-Ybor City Campus- hosted our first Membership Event of the year at the YPST building having a big turnout as a result.
The main goal was to give existing and new members the opportunity to network with other students as well as professors in the field and also to get a better understanding of the different branches of the Criminal Justice System.
With the hard work and enthusiasm of our CJSA Board members, particularly Bobbie Barnes, who was designated to organize this event, we had the participation of well over fifty attendees, Board members, Faculty Advisors - Dr. Reichard, Dr. Neil, and Professor Haber, and five speakers: Dr. Driggers, Professor Reuter, Mr. Vasquez, Mr. Bush, and Professor Croissant - all of them with extensive background in the areas of Corrections, Law, Homeland Security, Counter Terrorism and Army, Investigations, and Security.
Participants also enjoyed free food and beverages catered by Sodexo and deserts provided by Bobbie Barnes and Daniela Mendez. We also had a professional photographer, Kendra Velasco, who kindly volunteered her services for this event. Towards the end, we had a raffle with six winners. The prizes were three free oil changes (donated by Tomer Kol and Jessica Roan), a $50.00 nail-salon gift card (donated by Jessica Roan), and men’s and women’s Sterling-silver bracelets 18grams (men) 22grams (women) (donated by Florida Estate Jewelry and Pawn -Ralph Barnes-).
The CJSA Board thanks all parties that made this event possible, as well as attendees, and will continue working to ensure more events like this will take place in the near future.
