State Certification Requirements

Hillsborough Community College provides courses to prepare firefighters to take various certification exams.  Based on the certification you are interested in obtaining, Hillsborough Community College may offer all or at least most of the courses you will need. 

Certification Testing

Students apply to the Florida State Fire College to take exams through their website:   https://floridastatefirecollege.org/public/pb_index.asp

Computer-based testing is conducted through the contracted services of Pearson VUE who has several locations in Central Florida where applicants can go during operational hours and take the exam.

Fire Instructor I
This certification requires at least 6 years of experience as a member of an organized fire department and completion of one 40-hour course which is available at HCC. This course must be taught in the traditional format for entering into the FCDICE system. 

FFP 2740 Fire Service Course Delivery

Upon completion of these certification requirements, students apply at the FCDICE website to take the certification exam.

Pump Operator Certification
Two 40-hour courses are required for this certification and both courses are available at HCC.

         FFP 2303 Fire Service Hydraulics

         FFP 2305 Apparatus Operations  (Note - Fire Service Hydraulics is a pre-requisite to this class).

Upon completion of these certification requirements, students apply at the FCDICE website to take the certification exam.
