The entire animal kingdom is divided into two groups, the invertebrates and the vertebrates. There are over 1,000,000 extant animal species, and 98% of them are invertebrates. Invertebrates are animals without backbones and internal skeletons. There is an incredible diversity among the invertebrates in terms of body design and operation.
