The skeletal system provides support, protection, and movement for the body. It consists of several tissues, including osseous or bone tissue and various types of cartilages. These cartilages include hyaline, elastic, and fibrous cartilage. Both bone and cartilage are connective tissues (CT).
The skeleton is divided into two sections for convenience.
(1) The axial skeleton consists of the bones of the skull, vertebral column, and bony thorax.
(2) The appendicular skeleton consists of the bones of the arms and hands, legs and feet, and the pectoral and pelvic girdles.
Labeled photographs are provided to assist you with your review of the skeletal system.
