The appendicular skeleton consists of the bones of the pectoral (shoulder) girdle, pelvic (hip) girdle, arms, legs, hands, and feet.

The fibula runs parallel to the lateral border of the tibia. The fibula does not articulate with the tibia; however it is an attachment point for muscles and provides some stability for the ankle at the lateral_malleolus.
