Advising and Counseling

 

At the Ybor Campus, your success is our mission.  To that end, we have a staff of Academic Advisors and Counselors ready to assist you.

What is the difference between an advisor and a counselor?  Their responsibilities are described below:

 Advisors 

 Counselors

  •  Can help you decide what classes to take.
  • Can assist you with petitions if you need to drop or withdraw from a class after the published deadline dates.
  •  Will do unofficial evaluations of prior college level work to determine whether or not you have met the prerequisites for any particular course.
  •  Will assist you with your academic appeals and with getting into classes if your GPA falls below 2.0.
  •  Will assist you with course substitutions.
  •  Will help you with a career choice.
  •  Can help you determine when you should apply for graduation.
  •  Can help you with test anxiety issues.
  •  Can help you find classes to take while you complete any preparatory classes.
  •  Will do short-term assessment and referrals as necessary for personal issues.

 

The Advising and Counseling area is located in the YLRC building, Room 106. 

 Hours of operation:

Monday and Tuesday  8:00 am - 7:00 pm
Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Friday 8:00 a.m. until noon

Appointments are not necessary, but you may make an appointment by calling 813.253.7713.

 

During periods of extended registration (the week before classes start each semester and the week of drop/add), hours of operation are:

 Monday through Thursday  8:00 am - 7:00 pm
 Friday  8:00 am until 4:00 pm

During extended registration, appointments are not available.
