A Message to Our International Students

January 31, 2017

Dear HCC International Students,

On January 27, 2017, President Trump signed an executive order restricting entry into the United States by immigrants and non-immigrants from the following seven nations in the Middle East and Africa: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Specifics regarding the impact of the order are often difficult to predict and are subject to a fast-changing series of rules.

On behalf of the Center for International Education, I want to reassure each and every international student attending Hillsborough Community College (HCC) that we value your presence in our classrooms, on our campuses and in our community. We are committed to creating a learning environment that celebrates cultural diversity and promotes international understanding.

Again, we are facing a situation that is changing daily, and various legal actions are in progress. The Center for International Education will monitor changes as they happen and keep you informed. In the meantime, we recommend the following:

  • Students holding passports or citizenship from one of the seven affected nations are advised NOT to travel until further information received.
  • We encourage ALL of our students to keep the following documentation in your carry-on luggage or on-your-person when choosing to travel internationally:
  • A copy of your most recent transcripts;
  • Proof of enrollment and financials;
  • I-20 document signed by a Designated School Official within in the last six months;
  • Valid F-1 visa and passport that is valid for six months or more.

Your advisors at the Center for International Education and faculty counselors in counseling services are available to support you.

Sincerely,

Michael Brennan
