Philosophy

The Philosophy Associate in Arts degree transfer track is a pre-major for students who wish to pursue a four-year degree in philosophy at a university. The associates degree provides students with the foundational knowledge required to enhance their understanding of philosophy as a critical inquiry of nature and human society, to analyze and evaluate major paradigms in philosophy from historical and contemporary perspectives, to sharpen critical thinking and argumentative skills, and to prepare students to transfer to a university. The degree offers students a fundamental understanding of the main fields of philosophy, including logic, ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, social and political philosophy, aesthetics, and philosophy of religion while exposing students to a broad spectrum of philosophical theories. Many university programs require the completion of specific courses prior to acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to ensure transferability.
